Stonemason in South Tyrol
David Gasser

David Gasser was born in 1981 in Brixen in the South Tyrolean Eisack Valley. For his training, the Villandro native finally moved to Lasa in Val Venosta, where he attended the three-year full-time school for stonemasons and stone sculptors from 1995 to 1998, learning to work primarily with Covelano and Lasa marble, probably the purest marble in Europe.

After completing his training, he initially gained valuable professional experience at the Höllrigl stonemasonry company in Lana. As the youngest participant among the stonemasons, he competed in the South Tyrolean team at the 35th World Professional Championships in Montreal and achieved 5th place.

During his military service from 2000 to 2001, David Gasser worked as a lorry driver before setting off on a three-month trip through Australia in 2002.

Back in Europe, the stone sculptor initially worked in stone restoration in Crailsheim in Germany. He gained further experience in restoration work on the parish church in Frankfurt am Main before deciding to specialise further and attending the two-year technical school for stone technology - master school for stonemasons and stone sculptors in Munich.

Back in South Tyrol, David Gasser has been working as a self-employed master stonemason and stone sculptor in his home town of Villanders since 2005.
